October 30 -- Briggs and Stratton Corp.,
which makes engines for outdoor power equipment, will begin hiring for 135
full-time jobs as it moves production from a plant in Georgia to Wisconsin.
Wauwatosa-based
Briggs and Stratton expects to add a
total of 220 full-time positions and 150 temporary seasonal workers to its
facility in Wauwatosa. The additional hiring is expected to happen early next
year.
In July, Briggs announced that
it would close its plant in McDonough, Ga., and start producing pressure
washers, snow throwers and tractors at the plant in Wauwatosa.
The
company already has moved some of its manufacturing and assembly lines to
Wisconsin.
Laura
Timm, vice president of corporate communications and public affairs with Briggs and Stratton, said the new hires would begin work between January and March.
The company is hiring assembly workers, machine operators, forklift/material
handling staff, set up technicians, welders, maintenance workers and
technicians.
The
company's hiring team plans to screen applications, and qualified individuals
will be contacted to attend an invitation-only job fair at the Wauwatosa
campus.
